Radio Receiver and Transmitter TCH Collins 18-M
Year 1940

“For Special Service Only”

The TCH equipment (Collins 18M), is a complete radio transmitting and receiving installation for portable and mobile services requiring unusual reliability and flexibility. The receiver uses a sensitive superheterodyne circuit arranged for crystal controlled or continuous tunable operation in the medium and high frequency bands. The transmitter will deliver from 5 to 15 watts output on medium and high frequencies, and will operate into a wide range of antenna lengths. The transmitter uses an oscillator-amplifier circuit, with provision for two crystal controlled frequencies, or for continuous master oscillator coverage. The equipment is arranged for push-to-talk and break-in operation on VOICE and CW but duplex operation is not provided. The transmitter-Receiver unit is constructed of welded aluminium alloy sheet, finished inside in flat gray enamel, and outside with a dark greenish-gray baked crystalline enamel. All parts are adequately reinforced to withstand the vibration and handling incident to normal service. The TCH is practically spry-proof as the front and rear covers seat against a rubber gasket and there are no openings in the covers other than those for the fastening screws. Further protection against dust, moisture, and mechanical injury is provided by a waterproof canvas case. The TCH requires an external power supply operating from batteries or a-c line.
